Sign Our Open Letter

The Female Composer Safety League supports survivors regardless of whether or not they are able to share their stories. Our work as an organization addresses the historical lack of accountability in the composing industry that has caused harm to many, especially young women. If you are a survivor of sexual abuse in music composing and adjacent industries,  we believe you, and you are not alone. It takes a village.
Please show your support by signing
here.

Speak Up

It is always appropriate to support survivors. We value strong voices, and ask for those who have the platform to do so, to raise your voices for your vulnerable colleagues and community members who cannot. Speaking up on behalf of a survivor can save a life. If you are in a position to speak up, whether about workplace abuse or against online bullying, please do so with FCSL's Agreements in mind. We aim to create safe spaces for female composers to express themselves and share their music safely.

Self-Reflect

Self-reflection is the catalyst for all inner growth, accountability, and lasting change. Meaningful self-reflection takes us out of shame-based patterns like comparing our trauma to others (often called the "Trauma Olympics") and disbelieving others. Self-reflection is the key to examining our unconscious and fear-based tendencies such as avoiding uncomfortable conversations and judging others.
For a trauma-informed and focused starting point, access FCSL's free
21-Day Challenge: Self-Reflection Guide.

Don't just take it from us, take it from one of our Book Recommendations: the gifts of self-reflection and takin authentic action to support survivors are limitless. Whether you consider yourself a survivor, ally, both (or aren't sure), we encourage you to find a book that speaks to you. FCSL's ability to grow, educate, and offer resources as an organization is possible because of the incredible work by Dr. Judith Herman, Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk, Dr. Brené Brown, activist, founder of the MeToo Movement, Tarana Burke, and more.

Get Involved

Since the dawn of civilization, healing has taken a community. FCSL wants to see more than numbers: we want composers and musicians from marginalized genders to equally belong and prosper in an industry perpetually dominated by white men. We need your active participation to build a safer community with no sexual abuse, and your direct involvement to help transform all areas of the composing industry.
We can't do it without you.
